Minisymposium theme and goals
------------------------------
Computational Biology is still a fast developing and important discipline in academic research and industrial application. The analysis of bio molecular sequences and their relation to the functioning of organisms has created a number of challenging problems for mathematicians and computer scientists.
The interdisciplinary field of computational biology covers areas such as classification of DNA and protein sequences; analysis of gene expression patterns for uncovering regulatory pathways, and for relating phenotype to mRNA expressions; understanding protein-protein and protein-DNA interactions. The large size of biological data sets, the inherent complexity of biological problems and the ability to deal with error-prone data all require careful and appropriate modelling and efficient numerical solutions. This involves the application of a wide range of methods from numerical analysis, applied statistics, combinatorial optimization, theory of computer science, and machine learning. The goal of the workshop is to provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of latest research on models and efficient computing solutions for problems arising from molecular biology.
Submission Guidelines
----------------------------
Authors are requested to submit an extended abstract of 3-4 A4 pages in electronic version (in word or pdf format) directly to the organizing committee (mailto: [email protected] and [email protected]), on or before June 01, 2005, following the instructions published in:
