INFORMS TOPS BUSINESS WEEK MBA LIST WITH 3 JOURNALS (October 22, 2002)

In its October 21, 2002 issue, a Business Week article, "Behind the Rankings," explains that the magazine calculated each school's intellectual capital rating, a metric used in the special MBA issue, by tallying academic journal entries from 18 publications. A note from the publisher placed the actual number at 19.

Three INFORMS journals appear on the list: Information Systems Research, a newcomer, and the returning Operations Research and Management Science, which appeared on the 2000 list

"It’s no accident that the field of operations research takes the lead among business schools," says Mark Doherty, Executive Director of INFORMS. "Operations researchers bring a unique blend of analytical tools to solving business problems. Our editors are very rigorous insuring that academic papers are carefully refereed before appearing in our scholarly journals. The appearance of three INFORMS journals on the Business Week list shows that operations research is clearly influencing the academic and business world."

INFORMS publishes 10 scholarly journals: Operations Research, Management Science, Information Systems Research, INTERFACES: An International Journal of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences, the INFORMS Journal on Computing, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, Marketing Science, Mathematics of Operations Research, Organization Science, and Transportation Science. INFORMS will introduce a new journal, Decision Analysis, in 2004.

Two other publisher represented on the Business Week list contributed two journals to the 19 journals represented. The remaining publishers contributed one journal each.
